Maple Springs Campground, and Lanesboro tourism

Our first real camping trip of 2017 was at the Maple Springs Campground, next to Forestville State Park in southern Minnesota.

We were able to get a great campsite along the creek, so we had a nice view and the relaxing sounds of moving water. Of course, Buddy, in typical German Shepherd Dog fashion, wanted to drink the entire creek, so we had to keep a close eye on him.

Biking, beer and ice cream

This was the first time we’ve left the dogs unattended, we were a little unsure how they’d do, so we kept our time away short. We

Then we leashed up the boys and went hiking in the state park, exploring the old city settlement, the great walking trails and generally enjoying being in nature. Old man Tobs did a pretty good job keeping up with us as we hiked for three hours. Whenever we’d stop for photos or just to admire the view, Toby plopped on the ground and rested his aching old bones. At one point, we got to the scenic lookout where two women were sitting on a bench, Toby gave them “the look” until they made room for him on the bench. Suffice it to say, he got lots of pets out of them too.

Once we got back to our site, Toby climbed onto his couch and declared “game over.” He worked hard, so I let him eat his dinner on the couch, because he’s spoiled and well loved.

While I fed the dogs, Jamey built us a fire, and we had a nice dinner, followed by s’mores for dessert. I think this camping thing is going to be great!
