About Us

wandering weirdos

It’s us, the weirdos!

Greetings fellow travelers!  You may ask yourself, “Who are these Wandering Weirdos?”  We are Jamey Strand and Samantha Bishop-Strand and we are weird and that’s OK.

We have always enjoyed traveling but hotels are expensive.  And we can’t bring our dogs or sleep in our own bed.

So in 2016, we decided to buy our first camper, a 2012 Aspen Trail. We upgraded to a Grand Design in 2019. Now, we sleep in our own bed and bring the best doggos with us along for the adventure! We started this blog to talk about our camping trips. We hope you find the stories and reviews interesting and useful. Please let us comment if there is something else you’d like to see, or if you just want to say “good boys!” to the dogs.

We’re just “weekend warriors” – camping for fun and adventure, not living full time in our RV (not yet!).

Sam

a woman and a german shepherd

Sam is the brains of this operation. She works in marketing communications during the day and runs this website in her free time. If it’s related to the internet or technology, Sam’s in charge.

Jamey

a man and a german shepherd

Jamey is the brawn of this operation. He works as a courier driver all day, and is in charge of pulling the travel trailer and backing it into the campsites (and the sewer hose hook-up and disconnect).

Hazy

Hazy was born sometime in 2020 and adopted in November, 2021. He’s a Lab & Great Pyrenes Mix (really, he’s a mix of a lot of things, we did the DNA test, but those are the top two) breeds. Hazy was named after Hazy IPAs. He loves to snuggle, go for walks and chase birds. Watch out, this dog drools like a firehose.

Barley

a geman shepherd dog

Barley was also born sometime in 2020, and adopted in January, 2022. She’s probably a purebred German Shepherd, but she is very small! Yes, she’s full grown. Barley is brilliant and energetic. Her hobbies include working, herding, chasing Hazy and chewing on everything.

Forever in our hearts, collectively known as the boys.

The boys crossed the rainbow bridge in 2021, together. It was the worst day of our lives, but every second with them was a gift. They were the best dogs and camping buddies. They will be missed forever.

Toby

a very cute dog wearing a bandana

Toby was a Doberman & German Shepherd mix. He made it to 15 years old. Toby loved to lounge on couches, eat food and get pets. He was the best dog ever, and is Sam’s heart dog.

Buddy

a German Shepherd dog sitting on a rock

Buddy was a purebred German Shepherd, who lived until 12. He was our rescue, had a pretty abusive past before we adopted him and he lived the dream. His nickname was Velcro because he was always attached to Sam.

If you see us around, say hi or send us an email! We’d love to hear from you. We’re weird, but not unapproachable.
