It’s almost camping season!

Winter has come and gone and it has been rough!

Polar Vortex

We suffered through not one, but two Polar Vortexes with actual air temperatures around -20 and wind chills at -50 degrees. The dogs got their first jackets and boots and looked adorable.

We got a metric crap ton of snow in the course of two months, including, of course, the obligatory April blizzard.

Before we got all the snow, December and January were relatively light on snow, but we got tons of freezing rain and a little snow, which made walking outside treacherous as all the sidewalks and side roads had a coating of ice hidden beneath a dusting of snow.

Staying warm with local brews

While we had plans for winter biking, the ice made that pretty impossible. So we took the boys to lots of local breweries and stayed warm inside.

Dude, where’s my car?

One Monday in February I gave myself a mental health day and went to the gym and got a nice massage, spent a nice amount of time relaxing in the steam room and indulged in a fruit smoothie; all-in-all a great day. That is until I tried to go home and my car was no where to be found! I must have lapped the parking lot for an hour before I finally accepted that my car was gone!

I think I either knocked the key fob out of my coat pocket as I put my gloves in the pockets, or someone took it from my coat. Either way, some asshole stole my car. It was recovered two weeks later and I was asked to go to the impound lot and identify which stuff was mine. None of the stuff was mine, it was all more stolen things, it was beat to hell and it seemed to have been the thieves home for those two weeks.

Insurance eventually declared the car a total loss, so I had to buy a new car. Thank goodness for insurance and gap insurance. I was able to buy a new, better car, but what an absolute nightmare!

Suffice it to say, we are ready for warm weather and camping season!

Trips booked

We’ve started planning the 2019 camping season and cannot wait to start exploring! Here’s the highlights of what we’ve planned so far:

Cross-Country Road Trip

The big news, highlight of the summer, will be our nine-day trip across the country. We’re going to Kansas City, MO to Dallas, TX, and back through St. Louis, MO. Texas is our destination with the most days, we’re going to visit friends who live in the area. We’re so excited to explore all the areas and eat so much barbecue!

The dogs are coming along, so we’re carefully planning dog-friendly activities to include for them. Follow along on Instagram for live updates, and stay tuned here for a summary of the trip.

All Pints North

The second most exciting trip is All Pints North. A craft beer festival in my favorite city, Duluth!

More trips to come, but I’m sure these two will be the best parts of the summer.

Do you have recommendations for Missouri or Texas? Where else should we camp this year? Drop a recommendation in the comments.
