Introvert Time

Published by Sam on

I’m an introvert. That doesn’t mean I’m shy, it just means too much time talking (especially small talk) and with people is draining for me, so I recharge by being alone.

Signs of introverts

This COVID-19 quarantine season has proven I’m maybe a little less of an introvert than I originally thought – I miss chatting with my friends in person! I got quite the charge making random small talk with a Target cashier! But I’m still pretty introverted.

Don’t talk to me, I’m introverting

After a week of back-to-back-to-back Teams meeting, I was drained. I know some people are experiencing significant slow downs at work, but not me. I’m busier than ever, working more than ever, and with zero boundaries between work and home, I work all the time, trying to get caught up. I’m spent.

So it has been great to have the option to run up to The Lake Place and getaway for some alone time. I’ve done solo camping once before, and that was pretty great. But I’ve really appreciated not having to deal with the logistics of move day alone. I can just get in the car and 3 hours later, I’m at my second home.

Unlike a cabin, I don’t have to spend my first two hours picking up sticks, cleaning gutters, disposing of dead mice and mowing the giant lawn. I can just get right to relaxing.

The downside, of course, is that our site is minuscule. Mowing it takes 5 minutes, so that’s nice. The lake is a short walk from my door, so I have to take my chair to sit by the lake and read. No big deal, really, but I do love sitting on the deck of my sisters cabin, looking at the lake, with a coffee every morning. No bra, no makeup, no one around to see me.

I’ve enjoyed a couple of trips by myself to recharge. I can take up all the room in the bed, no one is keeping me awake with their snoring, I can eat corn on the cob, veggie pizza, or tater tots (all things Jamey hates).

There are still lots of things to explore in the area, so I’m glad we have a couple more months left of this unique, stationary season.

Well, mostly stationary. Later this week, we are pulling the RV off the site for a few days to spend the Independence Day weekend in Medora. So stay tuned for a very patriotic adventure!
