End of Camping Season

Published by Sam on

All good things must come to an end, and that means camping season has once again come to a close. The trailer is winterized and finally parked safely behind the fence in our yard.

Construction Nightmare

This spring (just as camping season started), the city decided to upgrade our sewer lines, which was quite a nightmare to live through. We had to move the camper out of the yard for a while (in the off chance that digging in our yard opened up a sinkhole and swallowed the camper) so we parked on the road. Much to the consternation of one asshole neighbor.

rude note about parking
For context, we were parked exactly where the construction crew said we should park. Yes, the wrong way. But out of their way.

Once we were cleared to get it back in our yard, we faced challenges with getting stuck in the mud since the dug up the front half of the yard and it was either an open hole or just mud all summer. All said, we had to cancel three previously planned trips because we couldn’t get out of the yard. Very disappointing. Hopefully 2020 is better.

Successful Camping Season, Anyway

Overall, camping season was a great success. It was our first year in the beautiful new Grand Design and I can honestly say I am so glad we made the upgrade. Sure, the Aspen Trail was fine, but the Transcend is perfect. All the small upgrades really add up — the struts that hold the bed storage up, the magnetic storage doors, the lights in the basement storage, all these little details make a big difference. We even got to use it as a guest house when we had guests stay with us! I miss it already, and I am sure I’ll be spending time visiting it during the winter.

The RV doubles as a guest house

My favorite trips this year included our epic cross-country road trip, especially our time in Texas with great friends, my first solo-trip and of course, Okoboji – especially getting to make new RV friends, HopalongRVing, out there, living the full-time dream, giving us serious FOMO.

Never Stop Having Adventures

Camping season may be over, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to hibernate. We’ll keep this blog up to date with close-to-home adventures we have this winter. Minnesota and Wisconsin are full of so many opportunities to explore, there will be plenty to tell you about. So make sure to follow us on Instagram and stay tuned!
