Doggos doing things

Update on what the dogs have been up to – and it’s a lot!

Toby and Buddy continue to have lives more interesting than ours, so while we’re just going on with the daily slog of life, I thought we should bring everyone up to speed on all the fun and scary things the boys are involved in.

Doggy Models

Both boys have become models for Pawstrip – rocking adorable bandannas and a cool toy. We just got more bandannas so stay tuned for more photoshoots! If you want to order some products and make your dogs look half as cute as my dogs, use promo code wanderingweirdos20 for 20-percent off your order.

Howl-O’Ween

I spent way too much money on matching costumes for us and the boys for the Howl-O’Ween at our favorite brewery, 56 Brewing. Jamey & Toby went as ToBEE and the Beekeeper, and Buddy & I were a safari tourist and a lion. Neither of us won the costume contest, but it was worth the price just to see them in their amazing costumes! Buddy hated the lion mane, but we worked it out. Toby is used to wearing his Viking shirt and the bee costume was really just a shirt, so he didn’t mind at all. I wish the bee costume had better wings. Turns out, dog clothing manufacturers mostly make clothes for smaller dogs. Pro-tip clothing makers: big dogs look great in clothes too! We need a big and tall line of clothes for dogs.

Seizures and Aging

And now for the hard part. Our dogs aren’t young anymore. Buddy has been having minor seizures. He twitches his face back and forth and I can’t call him out of it but they don’t last long and don’t really seem to bother him much. They freak me out and I hate that it’s happening to him. The vet says unless they get worse, treating them is worse than the symptoms, so we’re just keeping an eye on him. Turns out, stress can trigger seizures. As I was trying to get him used to wearing his lion mane, he was clearly stressed out and unhappy about it – and he had THREE seizures in one day. I was lucky enough to figure out he was fine with the mane around his neck just not over his ears, so we could modify the costume for him, but damn I feel bad about subjecting him to such misery. We don’t really know what the underlying cause of his seizures are, but it’s not epilepsy or anything easily treatable, which means it’s in his brain. Before he was rescued, he was pretty badly abused and neglected – I have no idea if that contributed, but I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he has some brain damage in that handsome noggin of his. Thankfully, his horrible excuse for a human being, previous owner is not allowed to have dogs ever again. We’ll spend the rest of his life showing him so much love he already forgot about that awful past.

So cute, so triggering

Toby keeps getting older and breaking my heart. His muzzle gets a little more gray every day and his arthritis seems to bother him a little bit more. He needs more of a running start and a lot of clearance to hop up onto the bed (never fear, he will cry at me until I move over and make enough room for him to leap up) and he can’t get into the car in the garage because he has no room to get a running start, so I have to help him into the car. He limps for the first few minutes of every walk. I assume, like me, he’s achy when he first starts moving until he loosens up a bit. But he’s really slowing down and showing his age. He’s 12, but he refuses to believe it.

Such a distinguished older gentleman

Why can’t dogs just die at the same time as us? I don’t want them to be immortal and passed around, I just want them to live with me for the rest of my life. No dogs can ever compare to these two precious angels.

What are you up to with your dogs? How does your winter look? We want to hear what adventures you and your dogs are going on so leave us a comment below! Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more dog photos. And don’t forget that Pawstrip promo code! Every time you order, my boys get a free toy.
